Health Services

Many of the SJOM’s participants come to our facilities facing numerous health concerns. Some are only  minor common-day ailments, while others are more serious and carry longer-term effects.  Among those most commonly experienced by men at SJOM include high cholesterol and blood pressure, various viruses and infections, diabetes, and hypertension. While these health problems are challenging for anyone to handle, it becomes even more difficult for the majority of SJOM participants as they lack access to health insurance and quality health care.

Because of this, SJOM’s partnership with Rush Hospital is crucial to meeting the needs of our participants. Medical providers from Rush Hospital visit SJOM twice a month to offer their expert services.  While on site, the providers offer primary health care to all participants requesting services.  They also monitor and manage the chronic health problems so many of the men face, and offer health education.

Referrals and outside recommendations are also given to participants whose health concerns fall outside of what the providers are able to assist with at SJOM’s facilities.
