Fall 2008 Annual Benefit Dinner and Musical Reception
Saturday, September 20, 2008
SJOM held its annual Benefit Dinner and Musical Reception on September 20, 2008 at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Pilsen. This year's theme "An Evening of Hope" gave voice to the many accomplishments SJOM, its participants, and its community of supporters have achieved in the 27 years of the agency's existence, and to the many more that are sure to be made in the future. It celebrated the outstanding generosity of all those who donate their time, money, and energy to the mission of San Jose. None of our successes, or hope for the future would exist if not for all of these individuals, foundations, corporations, businesses, and other local organizations.
One particular individual celebrated was the recipient of SJOM’s first Community Pioneer Award, Raul Raymundo. As founder of a non-profit agency and community development corporation in Pilsen, The Resurrection Project, Mr. Raymundo is committed to improving the lives of Pilsen’s residents. We are grateful for the many achievements of Raul, and for the strides he has made in making Pilsen a vibrant neighborhood in Chicago.
The evening also offered delicious appetizers and cocktails for guests as they mingled and met new supporters of SJOM, a decadent meal donated by local Pilsen restaurants offering Latino fare, lively music by SalsaChicago Mambo All-stars, and plenty of dancing by everyone. Guests also enjoyed a silent auction with items from the simple and fun, such as a goodie basket from Trader Joe’s, to the extravagant 1914 bottle of fine Cognac valued at $400.
Once again, we would like to thank everyone who participated in “An Evening of Hope”, your donations, attendance, and sponsorship made the event possible.
