Council on Latino Homelessness; One Day Symposium

Address: Federal Resrve Bank, 230 S. LaSalle St, Chicago, IL Chicago

 TODOS CONTAMOS-

EVERYONE COUNTS

The Council on Latino Homelessness and the Chicago Community Trust will host a community forum whose goal is to begin the process of moving towards an understanding of Latino homelessness in the Greater Chicago Metropolitan region.

The Council on Latino Homelessness was established in 2005 as a result of several community based organizations concerned about the level of support and knowledge of homeless Latinos within the Chicago Continuum of Care.

To our knowledge, there has never been a forum focused on either networking together Latino Homeless providers or a discussion of the Latino homeless problem here in the greater Chicago metropolitan area.

  • What we propose is a region wide meeting of Latino oriented homeless serving organizations (broadly defined) to better network our services together and to discuss what we know and don't know about Latino homelessness.
  • The forum will provide an opportunity to understand critical gaps in knowledge data that can then be addressed through follow up research activities.
  • Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to develop and participate in follow up action items, which might include collaboration development, capacity building, data gathering and advocacy and policy development.
  • Secondary goals are to work towards building membership of the Council on Latino Homelessness and to discuss what resources are needed region wide to address the issues.
  • The mission of the Council on Latino Homelessness is to bring an end to homelessness in the Latino community by addressing the unique needs of Latino individuals, families and youth who are homeless through collaboration, advocacy, research and education.
