SJOM Hosts First Pilsen Networking Event

On October 27, San Jose Obrero Mission hosted its first-ever Fall Fiesta Networking Night at DeColores Galeria y Sabores at 1626 South Halsted Street. The event began at 6:00 p.m. and included two raffles, an open bar, and authentic Mexican appetizers provided by restaurant owner Sergio Reyes.

"We're excited about having these smaller events where we can really get to know people in the community and share how we're helping and ways that we can partner in the future," said Rudy Medina, a board member and chair of the fundraising committee.

Forty guests attended, including Board members, nonprofit workers and consultants, city workers, insurance sales representatives, small business owners, and others. Cook County Commissioner, District 7 Jesus "Chuy" Garcia was also present. Garcia not only serves as Commissioner but previously served as the founding director of Enlace, a partnering organization in neighboring Little Village where SJOM's Families in Crisis program is located.

After the raffle, Executive Director Israel Vargas thanked everyone in attendance.

"I am very proud of my management team for putting this together," said Vargas. "Look what we've accomplished."
